Memorial Day 2022

Memorial Day is a dedicated day for honoring U.S. military personnel who have died while serving in the United States armed forces. Over 1 a million Americans have paid the ultimate sacrifice to afford us the freedoms we take for granted every day. For that I say thank them.

One of the earliest Memorial Day ceremonies originally known was Decorations Day when graves were decorated with flowers by freed African American in 1866 according to reports from The Charleston Courier. A crowd of 10,000 people, mostly freed slaves with some white missionaries, staged a parade around the Washington Race Course in Charleston, South Carolina. The club served as a prison during the civil war for union soldiers, where more than 260 Union soldiers died and were buried. The first national commemoration of Memorial Day was held on May 30, 1868. You can learn more about this at history.com.

Lemony Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day with this environmentally friendly cleaning solution and ideas.
To create the cleaning solution, place lemon peels from about two or three lemons in a bottle or jar.
Fill the container with vinegar, almost to the top. You'll have to prepare this lemon vinegar solution in advance, for future use since you must let it sit for about a week before use for it to infuse.

Not Lucky Just Blessed

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Hope you enjoy the dishes I've shared and the Irish Blessing.

My Basic Cabbage Casserole

1 Head of Cabbage
4 Potatoes
1 14 oz. package of Polska Kielbasa (or your choice of sausage)
1/2 stick of slice butter
Salt and Pepper (or season of your choice)

Cut the cabbage into sixth. Layer flat on a baking dish with at least 2 inch sides. Cut potatoes into into quarters. Cut sausage into 1 inch bit size pieces. Spread potatoes and sausage throughout, over and under cabbage with butter slices on top. Cover tightly with aluminum foil at 350 degrees for 40 minutes ( or more if you want more tender cabbage). The more crisp the more nutritious. Enjoy!
